11 Jan Township High Schools invited to Heritage Days parade meeting
The Heritage Days steering committee of the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce is planning a special addition to the 2018 Heritage Days Parade. As the theme for Heritage Days is the ’50s: Community Strong, the committee is inviting the 15 township high schools of that era to each produce floats representing their individual schools.
A meeting will take place in the South Room of the Huntington City-Township Public Library on Tuesday, January 23 at 6 p.m. for those interested in being a part of the parade. Before the consolidation of these 15 schools into one county high school, a large rivalry existed between them during sectional tournament sports time. As individual entries to the parade, their floats will also be judged and a winning entry will be selected. This addition to the parade is being headed up by Stan Bippus and Jim Denman.
The committee hopes that each school will be represented in the parade with a float decorated with things that represent their particular school. The schools include: Andrews High School, the Cardinals, colors red and white; Banquo High School, Indians, blue and white; Bippus High School, Tigers, blue and gold; Clear Creek High School, Bulldogs, red and white; Huntington Township High School, Bearcats, purple and gold; Huntington Catholic High School, Rams, black and gold and Huntington High School, Vikings, red and black.
Additional schools included: Jefferson High School, Spartans, green and white; Lancaster High School, Lancers, red and white; Markle High School, Eagles, blue and gold; Monument City High School, Greyhounds; purple and grey; Rock Creek High School, Aces, black and red; Roanoke High School, Stonewalls, green and white; Union High School, Sharpshooters, blue and white and Warren High School, Lightening Five, blue and white.
Heritage Days will take place Wednesday, June 20 through Sunday, June 24 with the parade on Saturday, June 23 at 10 a.m. The official colors for Heritage Days are Black, White and Silver.
