26 May LaFontaine Arts Council announces JeFFFest

The LaFontaine Arts Council and Four Corners Custom Framing will once again sponsor JeFFFest. The event will take place Sunday, June 18, in downtown Huntington from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and will feature fun food, fabulous music and fine art. The art part of JeFFFest offers artists of all ages the opportunity to create a special work on a 5” x 7” canvas. These official JeFFFest canvases are $5 and can be purchased only at the frame shop, 419 N. Jefferson Street, during regular business hours, beginning Wednesday, May 3. Business hours are: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Completed canvases are to be returned to Four Corner Custom Framing by Friday, June 9 at which time they become property of the LAC. They will be professionally framed and displayed for the silent auction at the frame shop beginning Friday, June 16. The silent auction concludes the evening of JeFFFest. Artists may purchase more than one canvas, and any media can be used on the canvas. Submissions must be dry and ready for framing when they are turned in. All proceeds from JeFFFest go toward the LaFontaine Arts Council’s “Arts in Education” programming. 26 May Heritage Days “Bear Hunt” at Izaak Walton on June 18

A Heritage Days “Bear Hunt” will be held on the Izaak Walton League grounds, Hauenstein Road, Sunday, June 18. The new event will take place from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. for families with their children. Sponsored by the Izaak Walton League, the “Bear Hunt” will include stuffed bears hidden throughout the club’s grounds. Families can purchase a “hunting license” for each child “hunting bear” for $5. Lunch is also part of the price which includes a hot dog, chips and drink. Each child can take the bear home that they find on the “Bear Hunt.”...

18 May Warbirds on display, plane rides available at airport, June 18

World War II era warbirds will be on static display Sunday, June 18 at the Huntington Municipal Airport as part of the 2017 Heritage Days celebration. A T-Texan Warbird will also be available for paid rides from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The public is invited and a feed by the Civil Air Patrol will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A Young Eagles Rally will also be a part of the event at the airport on June 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This rally is sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 2 (EAA). It is part of a nationwide program that makes it possible for kids, age eight to 17, to have a free airplane ride, and introduce aviation to the youth of the nation. There is no entry fee for admittance to the airport, and all proceeds from the public feed will go to various projects the Civil Air Patrol has in progress....
